This year's OVCA Annual General Meeting and President's Dinner will be held on Monday, September 16th at the RA. Invitations will be sent during early August to Club Presidents, Committee Chairpersons, the Board of Administrators, Past Presidents, Honorary Members and Ken Thain Awardees. As well, representatives of other curling associations will be invited. The meeting will centre on Duncan Jamieson's review of the OVCA mission. Annual reports, financial statements and an update on the Development Fund will be uploaded to this website around the end of August.
OCA's Doug Bakes also provided a wide range of "business of curling" information at the May OCA Zone meetings. He has done an excellent job of outting together the kinds of informaiton that Board members would find useful. To access the files, go here.
The Rideau Curling Club is hosting the Canadian Mixed November 14-23, 2013. The Chair, Kim Canary, advises that they are looking for a presenting sponsor and are recruiting volunteers from the Rideau and the curling community. If you're interested in helping to sponsor the event, contact Kim Canary If you would like to volunteer or want more information on the event, go to here,
One way to recognize the contribution your volunteers make is through the Ken Thain Award. Ken was a very fine curler in his own right, and curled competitively out of the Granite Curling Club. In 1977, he took on the role of Secretary Manager of the OVCA. He was very well respected and considered quite firm but fair. Quite organized, he conducted the Association’s business efficiently and effectively. Ken was someone you could always turn to for an answer.
It has been ten years since the last Ken Thain award was presented. The OVCA board of directors would resurrect the award and present it at the OVCA Annual General Meeting, to be held at the RA Centre on September 16, 2013. For more information, go to the President's Newsletter or to the Ken Thain Award.
Last August, we started a series of web pages indicating which clubs had ice available for the 2012-13 season. Given the hits on those particular sites, it was useful to curlers looking for opportunities. So, when your club has worked out it's ice allocation for 2013-2014 and identified such opportunities, please contact the OVCA webmaster.
