Business of Curling

Is your club interested in how to ... Generate revenue? Increase membership? Market and promote curling in your area? Recruit volunteers? Learn more about the Business of Curling through workshops facilitated by the Ontario Curling Association team of experts.

The OVCA and OCA are partnering to present the workshops for our member clubs in the late June timeframe. The Pembroke Curling Club will host the workshops and lunch will be provided by the OVCA. There is no cost to the clubs and you may send up to three participants. Please contact Margaret Lomore or by phone 613-732-7168 to confirm your interest. Please indicate how many will attend. As soon as we have confirmed the details we will be in touch.

- The call for volunteers for the Mens and Mixed Bonspiels has been sent to all club presidents, managers, OVCA representatives and the over 600 participants.

City View Open Recreational League

City View Curling Club will be forming a new Open Recreational league on Saturdays this season. Beginners and players with limited curling experience are encouraged to join this league. This league is open to both men and women. Players may sign up individually or as a team. Clinics will be provided to players throughout the season. The season begins in early October and runs until mid-April. All games will be played at noon on Saturdays. Capacity is 28 players (7 teams). To register for this league, click here. Manager position - RCN (Navy) Curling Club

The RCN Curling Club requires a Manager for the 2013 – 2014 season. The club is operated by a volunteer board of directors and he/she will directly report to the Director of Club Operations. More information is available here or contact Jen Curry. Deadline for applicaton is June 28, 2013.

Review of the OVCA Mission

Duncan Jamieson has completed the review of the Ottawa Valley Curling Association with two "focus" group meetings and a follow-up discussion with the OVCA Board (May 6th). The Board has tasked a number of Board members to generate a work plan and report back in June. The result will be the focus for thie September 16th Annual General Meeting along with the closely related issues of a dearth of volunteers and the need to grow club membership. 2013 OVCA Annual General Meeting

This year's OVCA Annual General Meeting and President's Dinner will be held on Monday, September 16th at the RA. Invitations will be sent during early August to Club Presidents, Committee Chairpersons, the Board of Administrators, Past Presidents, Honorary Members and Ken Thain Awardees. As well, representatives of other curling associations will be invited. The meeting will centre on Duncan Jamieson's review of the OVCA mission. Annual reports, financial statements and an update on the Development Fund will be uploaded to this website around the end of August.

OCA Business of curling

OCA's Doug Bakes also provided a wide range of "business of curling" information at the May OCA Zone meetings. He has done an excellent job of outting together the kinds of informaiton that Board members would find useful. To access the files, go here.
